It does not get any better than this. I remarked to Ellie that from here it can only go downhill and I don‘t mean that in a literal sense. It was a perfect morning with the morning dew on the fields and the sun rising through the trees.

Breakfast was delicious and Annie couldn’t believe the amount of coffee we can put away. We planned to leave at nine but of course we only got away at quarter to ten after Louis took some pics of us.

We had wondered how to get from Maldegem to the coast but Louis couldn’t have explained it better, from their home to Zeebrugge along the Leopold canal one straight and level cycling path. In the tranquil morning light it was a sight to behold.

In Zeebrugge we managed to find the North Sea route quite easily and after that, with the help of the map we had previously got in Brugge and the countless signpost we managed to follow the route quite easily. We only had to retrace twice and that was because the signs were obscured by parked cars.

Again the wind was in our backs and it was a beautiful sunny day which meant that half of Belgium was strolling along the promenade. This meant some tricky navigating past the beautiful people, luckily it was still quite cold so I didn’t get too distracted.

Before we knew it we were almost through Belgium but at five we called it a day and found a camping in Koksijde and had our first taste of trying to fit all our stuff into our tiny tent which we actually managed to do quite well because we both slept very well.
