To Annie and Louis

Friday, April 23,2010

This is the day we prepared for for so long, on our way to France. Never mind that the first stop is with my sister Annie so we still had the luxury of a lovely supper and a soft bed.

Before we got started though we still had to pack everything in our panniers and do those last minute adjustments. Some string and some rubbers (no, not those ones), both very handy to keep things together. We still had lunch with Arcen and Marie-louise and thanked them profusely for their hospitality, the time has flown.

Here Arcene is feeding one of his little lambs.

We were lucky once again with the wind, all the way in our back so the 32 kms were eaten up in no time. We also knew the way as it was the same as a few days previously when we had driven to Brugge. Annie and Louis were already waiting for us so it was just a matter of unloading our bikes before settling down in their back garden for some serious cake eating and coffee drinking and of course chatting about all sorts of things, not least about Louis’s three times a week dialysis. I was also forced to drink a tasty Trappist, a Belgian beer I have done without for many years.

Supper was also delicious, Ellie especially enjoyed the fish dish, I think that after all these years of not liking fish she eventually agrees it was all in the mind and then, just to prepare us for the hardships ahead, Annie produced this special bottle of wine which, I am afraid, was emptied in no time and then off for some zzzz’s
