Basel day 2

Tuesday, 06 July 2010

Breakfast in the communal kitchen was dominated by our Ukranian friend telling us about his home country and his work at the University of Edinburough with international law, quite a clever man. Then off to the old city centre by tram to do most of the tourist walks, quite well signposted walks which take you along all sort of interesting places and museums including this old city wall:

The narrow streets in the city centre were very picturesque and in good swiss tradition decorated with lots of pots with geraniums.

After quite a few hours of wandering about I got tired and we managed to find some food before trekking to the very interesting botanical garden with quite a few south african plants, returned via the city gate and rounded off with a visit to the old university church where we learned all about Calvin and the reformation.

In the evening on of the world cup soccer games was shown at the backpackers with lots of noise from people who knew very little about soccer and then another hot night sleeping under just a sheet.
