After the cold of yesterday it actually warmed up considerably in the afternoon, not a cloud in the sky in the evening. As I am a sucker for punishment I offered again to sleep in Ellie’s thin sleeping bag and woke up in the morning rather chilly. Not surprising as, when Ellie opened the zip of the tent, there was ice on the tent and frost on the grass. Fortunately still no cloud in the sky and it warmed up quickly, in fact it turned out to be the most glorious day on our trip so far, we could actually cycle without our leg warmers and coat.

We stopped at one of the many chapels on the way, quite pretty inside:

We made a push for the town of Paimpol on the D786 in double quick time, at long last enjoying the views one sees of Brittany in magazines, deep blue see under azure skies.

Had lunch at a pretty little harbour, the french way, a baguette with cheese, looking at the guys getting kitted up in thick wetsuits to go spearfishing and mussel collecting. The hill out of there was a mean 10% and we had to walk the final bit but we were determined to follow the “Route des Failaises” a very scenic route along the top of the cliffs with outstanding views.

We took it fairly easy further on, even had time for an apple on the side of the road:

Got ourselves a camping at 16:30 (again with wifi) and now ready to refuel for tomorrow, I keep on telling the Frenchmen we run on a bottle of wine a day which is not far from the truth.

Distance: 55 km

Supper: Macaroni, green beans and the toughest sausage I have ever had.

For Neil:

About laundry, what laundry? Now serious, I’ll post our packing list at some future date when I do not have to run on battery power, suffice to say that with the 4 panniers between us space is at a premium so we took the minimum of clothes and most get worn every day and washed once a week except undies of which we have three sets, today’s one gets handwashed and dried on the bike during the next day, not pretty but it works. Most, if not all, campings have a washing machine and dryer so laundry is not really a problem apart from time consuming and expensive.
