I am writing this from the comfort of a heated cabin on the camping La Plage in Blonville. Sense prevailed as conditions are too bad to even let the dog out, not that we have a dog to let out but still.
We awoke warm and well rested after our more than 100 kms adventure yesterday, our “afdak” really was home from home. Our hosts were really trusting people because they had left for work already and had left us sleeping. We had had no chance to shop the day before so all we had for breakfast was a crust, some cheese and lots of coffee and we made the most of that. Ready to roll at 9:30, I had a look on the thermometer, 10 degrees.
We again had set out the route and it was plain sailing until one of these damn roadworks prevented us from crossing the highway and a helpful Frenchman sent us on a meandering course, including a dead end road, through the fields. At least we came past a baker so we could acquire lunch which was had in a sheltered spot just as a few rare rays ventured below the clouds. After a while though we got back on our intended route and as the weather got grimmer and grimmer we reached our goal of Deauville with the camping 5 kms or so beyond.
As luck would have it a Carrefour was open along the way so now we could get all the groceries we needed. By this time we both were chilled to the bone, some drizzle was falling and the wind reached storm strength so, on reaching camp, I gladly accepted the discounted offer of a snug little ‘housie’ complete with all the mod cons such as a heater, duvets and all such things. Are we decadent or softies?
