Treport – 04

Wednesday, 28 April 2010

Well, today we managed to get to Treport, not quite planned, (do we plan anything?) but it just happened, after all it was only 70 k’s or so.

The camping we stayed at was lovely, very relaxed, on a farm as you can see from the view from our tent. The ablution block was a work in progress so they gave us access to a mobile home for showering etc. so we had our private place.

Finding our route out from there was a bit of a mission with roadworks and bad signage but eventually we made it to the D940 which had been our main route the last few days.

We got to a little village with a not so little church, Ellie fell in love with the ornate decorations, the stone is quite soft so the weathering is taking its toll.

I was more taken in by some of the wooden houses with intricate joinery

We made our way around the Bay of the Somme and followed the excellent cycling path, they even had picnic sites along the way

We then got close to Treport and decided to take a shortcut (I should know better than that) along the Bois de Cise so we zooted down the hill to sealevel past very ornate houses and castles

only to find that the only way back was up according to the locals. Out came the netbook and we found some little alleyways and tracks through the fields that got us back on track.

Arriving at Treport we still needed supplies so Ellie disappeared into the supermarket only to get out of there hours later, or so it felt, with a challenge to load everything into the panniers. I couldn’t really get cross because she had included “une blonde” for me (beer for those with a twisted mind) and in the meantime I had gotten directions from an old man and his dog to the municipal camping so soon we were all settled in again.

We could even speak some english because soon after two brothers from Brittain arrived on their fancy motorbikes, they were on their way to Le Mans.
