Kirstenbosch
The cold front promised yesterday hit us during the night and it bucketed down. After a leisurly breakfast we decided that a bit of drizzle shouldn’t deter us from visiting Kirstenbosch so we donned our raingear and off we went. An advantage of this was that all the fair-weather tourists had stayed away so we virtually had the place to ourselves.
Guess where we headed off to first:
As luck would have it the gardeners had pruned some Pelargoniums and didn’t mind us raiding their cuttings so the backpack came in handy.
When the occasional shower hit us we took refuge in the glass house, not a bad place for shelter.
This is one of our favourites and sadly still lacking in our collection, P.barkly
After the shower we visited the older part of the garden where the old craftsmanship still shows in the rock walls, the pebble paths and the skilful layout of the plants
We thought of course that our sign at Van Stadens is much better
The collection of cycads is something to behold
No visit to Kirstenbosch is complete if The Dell is not included.
The misty weather made for a very special atmosphere in the garden, usually it is impossible to take a photo here without people in it.
We managed to buy a Slingsby map of the Cederberg in the garden shop, a big help later on when we did some hiking there.
