Karoo Desert Botanical Garden
We are on our way to Cape Town and of course on the way there we have to make a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Worcester. It is not at all how we remembered it, not as big but beautifully landscaped and the succulent Pelargoniums make us green with envy.
Beautiful lawns, surprisingly green at this time of the year. It was great to see students roaming around with clipboards doing some botanical project.
They make such good use of the natural resources to create interesting rock features, very creative.
This is just the thing we envisage for Van Stadens entrance, dry rock walls with sprawling plants in pockets.
Most plants are well marked, generally with a short description with it as well. This P.alternans will feature prominently during the rest of our travels.
No shortage of Brunsvigias here!
We also visit the well run nursery and talk the curator into repotting one of the Pelargonium seedlings and selling it to us. We now have a potplant in the car for the duration of the trip.
Now it is time to tackle the last bit to Cape Town, we take the scenic route through the old Du Toits Kloof pass and see Table Mountain in the distance for the first time. We set the gps to Nick’s appartment and we get there via a direct route through the centre of Parow with lots of traffic lights rather than via the freeway.
Nick and Su meet us and help us to carry the contents of the car into what will be our Cape Town home for the next week.
