Cape Town–Day 09

Stellenbosch

Still miserable in Cape Town today so we are heading towards Stellenbosch where miraculously the sun shines. The aim is to visit the gardens of the University of Stellenbosch where two years ago we were allowed to pick some seeds and we badly needed to identify them. We were given the key to the two glass houses and we could spend as much time as we liked.

As luck would have it the battery on my camera ran out so we couldn’t take as many photos as we would have liked. Still, it was a privilege to be able to spend time there. They have just appointed a curator, Martin Smith, and he promised that in another two years time all specimens will be labelled correctly.

Inside the glass houses, it is something to envy, so well ventilated and light

Some of the many flowers.

Afterwards we went to the Jan Marais park to have a picnic lunch, we drove in only to be chased by a guard on a bicycle, apparently one is only allowed to walk there which we then did.
