Calais – 02

Monday, April 26, 2010

It was a toughee today, it may not sound like much, 55 kms from Oye Plage to Wimereux but the wind was blowing strongly straight into our faces, quite cold and the hills between Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Griz-Nez were too steep even for granny gear so we walked a few times.

After yesterdays navigation hassle we had quite an easy time today, I had put the route into the gps so even through Calais we had no problems.

We stopped on the town square to admire Rodin’s sculpture.

and an interesting detail on one of the other sculptures 🙂

On the way we hoped that we could see the cliffs of Dover, unfortunately it was too hazy so we had to be satisfied with Cap Blanc-Nez in the distance.

We had planned to camp at Cap Griz-Nez but it was still too early so we pushed on till Wimereux where we found a very nice municipal camping. We are the only tent here, surrounded by retired people in their fancy mobile camper vans so they are kinda looking down on the plebs. Never mind that they didn’t have a fancy two pot supper like us with mince, noodles and carrots, yummie.

Now for some lovely french wine, at 1.5 Euro not to be sneezed at.

Then the serious hillwork started on the way to Cap Griz-Nez, of course I had to pose with my grey beard pointing to my not so gray nose and for some reason Ellie found the other sign funny..
