Beautiful Gent

After rearranging the furniture in the hut so we could fashion a double bed we expected a night of sound sleep. Nothing further from the truth, first of all we initially had the heater on to dry our wet clothes which made the hut into a sauna, secondly the rain came down in buckets on our noisy roof and thirdly the cocks next door started crowing way before it got light, Still, the sight welcoming me this morning made it all worthwhile:

After a sumptuous breakfast of fried eggs I set out a gps route into Gent and we were on our way on a cool and overcast but dry morning. In no time we got to the center of Gent and got the usual bumpf from tourist info, parked and chained our bikes and set off on the tourist walk of historic Gent. It was a lot more beautiful than I remembered and just as scenic as Brugge or Brussels. I let the pictures do the talking.

I didn’t quite know what to make of this poster, it might teach an old dog some new tricks ;-), on the other hand it might just be a way to attract the curious:

We had a nice, typical Belgian, lunch of ‘friet en frikandel’ feeding the tame pigeons at the same time before finishing our walk. By this time the sky looked a bit threatening and we decided it would be better to do our shopping and retreat to the hut.

Just as well, as soon as we arrived it came down in buckets but we were safe and dry in our little hut ready to uncork Bennie’s bottle of Chardonnay.
