Easter morning, early morning that is, sitting here in the sunroom with my feet on the heated floor while it is 12 degrees outside. I’m watching the birds pulling big fat worms out of the lawn, everything is sprouting out, spring is in the air.
First things first, contrary to what we had been told and feared the trip with Egypt Air was a breeze, comfortable in the plane, no complaints about the food and the wait at Cairo airport was over before we knew it. Quite a contrast with the Nairobi airport last time out. The bicycle boxes were dealt with very routinely, no worries really, passport checks were perfunctory. Pity about the cloudcover over Europe, I would have like to see the alps, but you can’t have everything.
Here is my porter 🙂
Ellie’s brother, Jan, and his wife, Katrien, were already waiting for us at Schiphol, the luggage just fitted in their car and soon we were on our way, the dreaded traffic jams were non-existent and we could enjoy the pancake Dutch landscape with the ditches, canals and rivers.
It is still quite cool here, the skies generally grey, yesterday we put the bikes together and went for a 27 km ride and the sun broke through and it was lovely along the Veerse Meer. Of course we had forgotten our camera so I can’t show you what is was like. On the way back though we had a reminder to be prepared for anything because suddenly the heavens opened and there was even a hint of hail.
We also had a look at a bicycle shop in Goes and we were pleasantly surprised that we could buy everything we still need in one place so that will be Tuesday’s mission.
Now for a real Dutch Easter breakfast…..
