Looking for things to do in Barrydale I had found the Waterfall trail, I had even managed to find a waypoint for the start. As it was only two km from the Brock house we decided to rather walk there. It wasn’t quite straightforward and we had to ask a few of the locals for directions and we were only sure when we came to the sign indicating the start of the trail.
It was a lovely trail and we soon found what we came looking for, a P.triste. We thought we had found something rather special but it turned out one of the most common species on our entire trip.
The trail is very clear and easy going and we enjoyed the many flowers on the way and, as we gained height, lovely views opened up for us.

Needless to say Ellie enjoyed herself sniffing the flowers and identifying most species, when we came across this limestone embankment with a lovely pool we had a rest just to enjoy it all.
We got to the top of the trail and got some great views down the kloof. We could hear that, after the recent rain, the river was in flood and when we got closer we decided it would be too dangerous to try and cross it.
We didn’t really mind as the return leg looked more strenuous as the way we had come and we took our time strolling back and we discovered some more P.triste, these even had flowers.
The way back to the house through the streets of Barrydale turned out to be a bit of a slog, we were glad to be back and enjoyed sitting on the stoep with a cup of coffee and chatting to Janice, the occupant of the studio on the premises. Soon the sun set, the temperature plummeted and we were glad once again for a nice warm bed in this cosy place.
