Schynige Platte

Saturday, 10 July 2010

A visit to the botanical garden is on the program today but first a leisurely breakfast and then a very scenic trainride into the mountains with Interlaken and Thuner See in the background.

The trip up was made quite hilarious by some Swiss people who were really enjoying their first outing to Schynige Platte even though they lived only an hour away. Too soon we arrived at the gardens and we were amazed at the variety and beauty of the plants.

We were particularly impressed with the signage and the layout of the gardens, perhaps we can apply some of that to the Van Stadens reserve when we get back home. There was also a special section with explanation on medicinal plants.

Of course the garden was too small for us so we set off on a path through the surrounding hills from where we had nice views of the Brienzer See.

For lunch we had to do something special so we climbed the koppie to the right of me and had our cheesebread on top.
