Laon – 49

Saturday, June 12, 2010

On a bit of a dreary and overcast morning we first went to see the sights in town we had read about the night before in the tourist pamphlets. Never mind that most everything was closed, I still got some inspirational woodwork pictures and some others of some major crumblies of which there are plenty of in this town.

As you can see, quite a hol(e)y church.

The countryside from Soissis to Laon was more of the same of yesterday but because the weather wasn’t quite as friendly we didn’t get off the bike much to take pictures, found shelter in some farmer’s drafty barn to have our sandwiches with smelly cheese for lunch, saw this other fancy farmhouse

On arrival in Laon we found the shopping centre quite easily, stocked up and dutifully followed all the arrows out of the parking lot and then Susie’s (our gps) directions only to find that a shortcut would have saved us at least a k, luckily the camp was not far off, the sun broke through and we could spread our tent on the fence to dry. Just then a campervan pulled up and a Dutch couple who had somehow spotted that we were fellow countrymen offered us beers and chairs. Such luxury!
